RVTI Level 2 Technician – Propane Practice Test

ASME tanks, or tanks that conform to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers standards, are designed for the storage of propane and other gases. One of the key characteristics of ASME tanks is that they are built for a long service life without requiring periodic recertification. Unlike other types of storage tanks, ASME tanks do not have a mandated recertification schedule, which means they can remain in service indefinitely, provided they are properly maintained and not subjected to damage or significant alterations.

This characteristic reflects the robust engineering and safety standards inherent in ASME tank design. Operators are still responsible for regular maintenance and inspections to ensure the safe operation of these tanks, but there is no formal recertification process required every few years as seen with other types of pressure vessels. Therefore, as long as the tank is in good condition and functioning properly, it does not need to undergo recertification solely based on the passage of time.
